Paraformaldehyde is a solid polymer of formaldehyde with high active content (91–96%). It acts as a convenient, concentrated source of formaldehyde, offering easier storage, transport and handling than 37% formalin solution. It depolymerizes in water or under heat/alkaline conditions to release formaldehyde steadily.
