Caprolactam Grade Ammonium Sulfate Price Update
February 28, 2026 at 4:00:00 PM

During the week of March 27 to April 2, 2026, China's ammonium sulfate market remained firm and continued to trend upward. Strong global nitrogen fertilizer prices and stable domestic supply supported market resilience.
Caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate remained the main price driver, with producers maintaining firm offers and facing limited sales pressure.
Price Summary
Indicative prices in USD/MT, calculated using USD 1 = RMB 7.00:
- Coking ammonium sulfate: USD 226-230/MT
- Caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate: USD 250-254/MT
- Urea: USD 271/MT
- Compound fertilizer (45%): USD 482/MT
The mainstream coking-grade price in Shandong was approximately USD 228/MT (RMB 1,598/MT). Compared with the previous week, prices showed a moderate increase, especially for caprolactam-grade material.
International Market
- Caprolactam grade, FOB China: USD 265-275/MT
- Granular ammonium sulfate, FOB China: USD 270-280/MT
International prices remained supported by tight nitrogen fertilizer supply, firm global urea prices, continued geopolitical uncertainty, and high ocean freight rates. Export demand continued to support domestic Chinese market prices.
Supply Situation
- Caprolactam operating rate: approximately 79.5%
- Coking plant operating rate: approximately 74.9%
Most producers operated at 70-80% capacity, maintaining stable supply. Although some factories entered temporary maintenance, overall availability remained balanced without significant pressure.
Demand Analysis
Demand remained stable but cautious. Compound fertilizer plants maintained routine procurement, agricultural demand continued in key regions, and export interest from Southeast Asia and Mexico remained active.
At the same time, high prices increased purchasing pressure. Downstream buyers remained cautious, and the Brazilian market showed resistance at elevated price levels.
Market Drivers
Supporting Factors
- Strong global fertilizer market
- Firm urea prices
- Stable export inquiries
- Low inventory pressure at producers
Limiting Factors
- High prices limiting downstream demand
- Slow cost transmission
- Conservative purchasing sentiment
Market Outlook
In the short term, the ammonium sulfate market is expected to remain firm, although further upside may be limited. The caprolactam-grade price may reach approximately USD 257/MT (about RMB 1,800/MT).
Exports and stable supply are likely to keep supporting the market, while high price levels may slow demand growth.
